• Live Near Your Work

    To benefit employees seeking to purchase a home, Georgetown University has partnered with the DC Office of Planning to conduct a one-year home ownership assistance pilot program. The Live Near Your Work program makes grants towards the down payment and closing costs of a home for employees who aim to purchase within a 2.4 mile radius of their office. The program became available to Georgetown University full-time benefits eligible employees in March of 2014 and was met with an overwhelming response.

  • Master Planning at Georgetown

    Georgetown University is planning for its future. Guided by our academic leadership and an emerging vision for the future of the University, Georgetown is engaged in a comprehensive master planning process to ensure that the University has physical spaces that support future academic programs and a vibrant living and learning community on the Main Campus. Through this process, Georgetown is engaging its community to plan for future academic spaces, recreational facilities, green space, student residences, transportation solutions, and the best use of our existing buildings. Signs of momentum and progress include construction on new residence halls–the former Jesuit Residence and the Northeast Triangle–and the Thompson Athletic Center. The new Healey Family Student Center opened on September 5, 2014.

    Georgetown University is in the second year of a five-year technology transformation strategy in support of the University’s teaching, learning, and research mission. As part of its Designing the Future(s) initiative, Georgetown is engaging technology disruptions in and out of the classroom to think about the Future University. Other lead initiatives include prioritizing mobile services, transitioning to cloud storage, and leveraging big data. In FY2014, Georgetown rolled-out seven new mobile services through GUMobile that now engage 35,000 prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and alumni. FY2014 also marked the second year that Georgetown engaged its incoming new students in a mobile gamifcation of new student orientation – connecting students to one another via a private social network. Additionally, Georgetown is implementing the Women Who Code initiative that aims to build digital literacy among women at Georgetown and increase the likelihood that more women will consider careers in the technology industry.
